Monday, May 9, 2011 – Day and Gig

Before leaving for the Anheuser-Busch tour, we at one final meal in the home of our gracious hosts Paul and Pat. It was a little sad stepping out of the air conditioned house and into the non-air conditioned van, but I know I will appreciate it all the more when I return home.

The gig in Muncie, Indiana actually went pretty well all things considered. We headlined at a venue called 'Be Here Now' and were entertained by drunken hoola hoopers including one who momentarily failed to notice her skirt had fallen to her ankles. No joke.
'Be Here Now' is a multi-level venue whose television screens allow people to watch the band from virtually any room including outside. In many ways, this unfortunately translated into playing for a mostly empty room while audiences were apparently enjoying our sound remotely. That said, I was able to enjoy a few Indiana micro-brews that actually held their own to Michigan's masterpieces.

My favorite opening act was Megafauna from Austin, Texas, a three piece prog/funk rock band with a female lead singer/guitar player. They have a very impressive sound though a little out of the mainstream. Their drummer Will is an incredible player and a super nice guy.

We slept at the home of the bar owner Whitney. Thank you Whitney.

Not quite 'Touchdown Jesus', but another large example of evangelizing to the expressway.
