Anheuser-Busch Factory Tour - Monday, May 9

Kind of a late start this morning, but we did manage to fit in a tour of the Anheuser Busch plant today, complete with two complimentary beers at the end of the tour. Overall, Eric and I agreed that the Miller tour was way cooler, particularly with ambiance and design than the Budweiser tour. One of the most notable distinctions came at the end of the tour in the hospitality room. The Miller tour in Milwaukee ended in a classic style brew pub decorated in polished hardwood floors, a carved wooden bar, and ornate wall designs that made you feel like you were in another country. The hospitality room at the end of the Budweiser tour looked like the break room in any florescent lit building with metal framed chairs and speckled round tables. Budweiser did give you a choice of your two complimentary beers (I had a Michelob Shock Top and a Stella Artois) but the design of the actual space felt so lazy in comparison. Budweiser, you can do better!

Again, I came to another scary revelation regarding how many beer brands that Budweiser or rather Anheuser Busch actually owns. I think I knew before that they owned Michelob and their whole line of beers. I did not know that they owned Hoegarrden, Becks, and Leffe. They also own Rolling Rock, Wild Blue, and everybody's favorite malt liquor King Cobra. In the non-alcoholic sector, they own Monster Energy Drink, O'Douhl's, Again, kind of scary that probably 80 to 90 percent of the beers you will find in a Meijer or standard grocery store are owned by either Anheuser Busch or Miller-Corps. Unless you specifically purchasing a small micro-brewery, you are probably supporting a corporate conglomerate beer company. Not that there is anything wrong with that.

Me before the tour...pre-beer.

Me after the tour...post-beer.
